Women in Motion is an initiative that was first presented this Sunday, May 17, as part of the 68th Cannes Film Festival. Aiming to highlight the contribution of women to the film industry, and supported by Kering, the initiative honored the actress, philanthropist, producer, and two-times Oscar-winner Jane Fonda for her long-lasting career as well as the independent Hollywood producer Megan Ellison, founder of Annapurna Pictures. The distinction was given to the two women during the Presidency Dinner, an event organized by Kering and the Cannes Film Festival that gathered around 200 guests in Le Suquet. Pierre Lescure and Thierry Frémaux, respectively President and General Representative of the Cannes Film Festival, as well as François-Henri Pinault, CEO of the Kering group, personally handed the awards to the two laureates during the dinner.
The event was the occasion to celebrate the official launch of Women in Motion. As of 2016, the initiative will award two prizes at the occasion of the Cannes Film Festival. The first one will celebrate an outstanding achievement in the cause of women in the film industry. The second one will go to a young, promising woman film director in order to highlight the work of women in cinema and give them the recognition they deserve.
