YOHJI YAMAMOTO AND SARAH MOON’S BOOK : DIALOGUE
By Iris JEANSON
The book opens with a dialogue between the two artists, revealing the similarities in their artistic approach, centered on the concept of the « suspended moment »—a fleeting instant brimming with possibility. “What fascinates me about your work is that, most of the time, you drape the woman in black, and yet… each time you find another way of doing it”. Says Sarah Moon to Yohji Yamamoto. This excerpt from their dialogue encapsulates the ongoing reinvention that unites them.
The first section of the book explores Moon’s vision of Yamamoto’s 90s collections, while the later chapters feature never-before-seen photographs from the past five years, some in black and white, others in color. Moon’s signature style—blurred, ethereal images—imbues the work with a sense of timelessness, while the layout, designed by the two artists, balances Moon’s mysterious photographs with Yamamoto’s sketches.
Moon, known for her exploration of beauty, time, and nature, and Yamamoto, the « poet of black, » have spent decades defying fashion norms. Dialogue is a tribute to their shared artistic vision, blending fashion, photography, and philosophy in a beautiful, introspective collaboration.
