YOUTH OF TODAY AT AFTERHOMEWORK SS18

By Crash redaction

At an age when your days should be consisting of school, lunchbreak, school, sleep and repeat, Pierre Kaczmarek et Elena Mottola are spending their time creating avant-garde clothing for their fashion line Afterhomework. Their youth in the industry might be impressive but what are the collections really about?

After a few promising collections, the duo was back with a stronger vision of where they wanted their brand to go, navigating between references from the past and futuristic silhouettes. The first silhouette says it all, an oversized crinkled white top with drawstrings coming out from odd places and a mauve skirt captured in elastic bands with a slit at the front. You know the show will be unconventional, imperfect at times but undoubtedly bold. The second look, an immaculate white dress covered in foot-stains is worn by a crying model, holding a plastic flower bouquet. A vision of the modern bride in distress? A dress made of a hundred ties, a total look made with newspaper, multiple t-shirts sewn together… You never know what to expect at an Afterhomework show. Boys walked with dirty converse sneakers and navy waterproof pants with slits. The same navy waterproof material is then used on magnificent crinkled dresses and draped tops, giving the models a very sci-fi look. A grey popcorn volume dress graces the runway, sleeves are so long they almost touch the floor… Some very good ideas and an interesting aesthetic that makes us wonder what’s next for the young brand and gives us faith in french youth.
